The characteristics of Westringia Mundi

Native to the coastal regions of Australia, Westringia Mundi has been selectively bred for compact growth and exceptional durability. Its fine grey-green evergreen foliage forms a neat, dense mound that resists wind and salt spray. From spring to autumn, it produces abundant clusters of lilac-mauve flowers, providing long-lasting seasonal colour. Adaptable to a wide range of soils, including sandy and poor substrates, it thrives in both coastal and inland environments while tolerating extended dry periods.

How to use Westringia Mundi ?

Westringia Mundi is an ideal choice for large-scale groundcover plantings, erosion control on slopes, and low-maintenance public or private landscapes. Its spreading habit and dense canopy make it effective for suppressing weeds and stabilising soil. Perfect for coastal gardens, median strips, and mass plantings, it can also be used in wide containers or as an underplanting for larger shrubs and trees. Its uniform growth habit reduces the need for regular pruning, making it suitable for high-traffic or low-maintenance areas.

Cultivation tips for Westringia Mundi

Plant Westringia Mundi in well-drained soil, spacing plants 1–1.5 m apart for optimal coverage. It tolerates a wide pH range but performs best in slightly acidic to neutral soils. Water regularly during establishment; once established, it requires minimal irrigation except during prolonged drought. Light pruning after flowering will maintain its compact form, though it naturally holds shape well. Fertilise in early spring with a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser to encourage strong growth and prolific flowering.
