Characteristics of Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay®

Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay® is a slow-growing, highly branched shrub with naturally compact, rounded form requiring minimal pruning. Its dense, glossy foliage presents in a striking deep green to near-black hue, providing year-round architectural interest. In late spring, it produces small, dark purple flowers that are subtly fragrant. Banno Bay® is tolerant of salt spray, wind, and short dry periods, making it well-suited for coastal and low-maintenance gardens.

How to use Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay®?

Thanks to its controlled growth and structural appeal, Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay® is ideal for low formal hedging, edging pathways, or planting in containers. It fits seamlessly into contemporary and minimalist designs, where its dark foliage creates bold contrast with grasses, light-coloured shrubs, or gravelled surfaces. It can also be repeated in mass plantings to define space and provide rhythm in landscape compositions.

Growing tips for Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay®

Plant Pittosporum tenuifolium Banno Bay® in well-drained, light soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Suitable for planting in spring or autumn, with spacing of 60 to 80 cm for hedge formations. Full sun to partial shade will promote dense foliage and deep colouration. Water regularly during the first year, then reduce as the plant establishes. A light annual prune in spring is sufficient to maintain form. Apply a balanced fertiliser at the beginning of the growing season and mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
