Aromatic & vegetable gardening

CRAMBE maritima is a decorative and at the same time, edible specie. Nowadays protected, its a cousin from our cabbage's vegetable garden, with its subtle cauliflower's taste. It grows on the littoral (talus and scree) but we can grow it very well in pot as well as in the vegetable garden. The little spring flowers perfume with a smell of honey. Its surrated large leaves and bluish green leaves reach about 60 cm high and 1m width.

The Hyssopus officinale blues is a perennial medicinal and condiment. It is a perennial with a compact bushy habit, it has a fine lanceolate, semi-persistent foliage. In summer it develops a blue spike-shaped bloom.

Rustic and creeping, Mentha requienii is a lovely ground-cover in any season. Its small rounded leaves grow while forming a close to the ground carpet. Its flowering is composed of very little light purple flowers, in June and July. Under a tree or a shrub layer, around a stepping stones path, this plant looks good.

Salicorne europea is an annual marine plant which reseeds in autumn. Its foliage is composed of succulent branches in small tufts. During the flowering, in august and september, tiny white flower grow at the end of branches. This variety suits in salty sandy soils, which give a iodine taste to its edible foliage. 

White sage or sacred sage for the Amerindians. It produces long, silvery-grey, downy and aromatic oblong leaves. In spring, it produces very large spikes of very fragrant white flowers.
