Characteristics of Phormium Yellow Wave

A member of the Hemerocallidaceae family, Phormium Yellow Wave forms a dense clump of flexible, upright linear leaves with a striking two-tone coloration: light green edged in creamy yellow, occasionally tinged pink in full sun. It rarely flowers in temperate zones, but its persistent, year-round foliage is its primary ornamental feature. It thrives in dry, well-drained soils and offers strong visual impact in both residential and public landscaping.

How to use Phormium Yellow Wave ?

Ideal for ornamental borders, rock gardens, patio edges or containers, Phormium Yellow Wave lends a strong vertical accent to coastal, Mediterranean, or modern garden designs. It can be used as a focal plant, repeated in rhythm for structure, or mixed with ornamental grasses, agapanthus, or lavender. In pots, it serves as an excellent accent plant for terraces or rooftops, especially in dry or exposed environments.

Growing tips for Phormium Yellow Wave ?

Plant Phormium Yellow Wave in spring or autumn in light, well-draining soil, including sandy or gravelly substrates. Water regularly during establishment, then sparingly during dry periods. Avoid winter waterlogging, which reduces cold hardiness. No pruning is needed apart from removing old or damaged leaves at the base. In colder regions (below -8°C), protect the plant in winter or grow it in containers to overwinter indoors. A mineral mulch is recommended in heavier soils.
