Characteristics of Cyclamen coum KOUMY® White Green Leaf
This tuberous cyclamen forms a low-growing clump of rounded to kidney-shaped, dark green leaves that emerge in autumn. Its white flowers, with short, strongly reflexed petals, rise above the foliage during winter and early spring. The plant then enters dormancy, with the foliage generally yellowing and disappearing in late spring. KOUMY® White Green Leaf differs from silver-leaved selections through its more uniform foliage colour. Its winter flowering and resistance to low temperatures make it a genuine garden perennial, unlike indoor cyclamens derived from Cyclamen persicum.
How to use Cyclamen coum KOUMY® White Green Leaf
Its low-growing habit makes it suitable for planting beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, where it receives light during winter and protective shade in summer. It can be used as ground cover, along the edge of borders, in shaded rock gardens, at the base of informal hedges or beside pathways. Planting in groups increases the visual impact of its white flowers during winter. It is also suitable for pots, bowls and window boxes filled with a free-draining growing medium. Allow approximately 25 plants per square metre to establish a regular carpet gradually without excessive competition between the tubers.
How to grow Cyclamen coum KOUMY® White Green Leaf successfully
Plant in autumn or spring in humus-rich, loose and well-drained soil that remains slightly moist during the growing season. Space plants approximately 20 cm apart. Position established plants with the top of the root ball level with the soil surface; dormant tubers may be planted around 5 cm deep. Water after planting, then maintain moderate moisture from autumn to spring without waterlogging the soil. Reduce watering during summer dormancy. Incorporate mature compost or well-decomposed organic matter before planting. No cutting back is required; remove only yellowing leaves and faded flowers. Avoid fertilisers with a high nitrogen content.
