Oredenia ‘Fusion of Fire’ (Oresitrophe × Mukdenia), bred at the Gothenburg Botanical Garden in Sweden, is a distinctive perennial hybrid valued for its broad, deeply toothed foliage. Deep green during the growing season, the leaves develop striking bright red autumn tones. More vigorous and floriferous than a typical Mukdenia, it produces panicles of small pale pink flowers in spring.

× Oredenia ‘Fusion of Fire’ is an intergeneric hybrid resulting from a cross between Oresitrophe rupifraga and Mukdenia rossii, made in 2015 by Johan Nilson at the Gothenburg Botanical Garden. This perennial forms a low, dense clump approximately 35 cm high and 55 cm wide. Its large, rounded, toothed and slightly lobed leaves are dark green during the growing season before developing vivid red tones in autumn. Branched panicles of pink flowers appear in spring. Compared with Mukdenia rossii, ‘Fusion of Fire’ is particularly distinguished by its larger foliage and denser flower panicles.

× Oredenia ‘Fusion of Fire’ is well suited to partial-shade and light-shade planting schemes, where its foliage provides strong visual interest from spring through autumn. Its spreading habit makes it suitable as ground cover, along woodland edges, beneath shrubs or in perennial borders with consistently cool soil. It combines particularly well with Hostas, ferns, Brunneras and other shade perennials with similar growing requirements. Its red autumn colouring extends the ornamental season well beyond its spring flowering period. For group planting, a density of approximately 6 to 9 plants/m² can be used.

Plant × Oredenia ‘Fusion of Fire’ in partial shade or light shade, in humus-rich, cool and well-drained soil. It performs particularly well in soils that remain cool to moist during the growing season. For border planting, allow approximately 40 to 50 cm between plants, depending on the desired speed of ground coverage. Water regularly during establishment and during dry periods to reduce soil drying. An organic mulch can help maintain soil moisture. Remove dead foliage in late winter before new growth begins.
