Characteristics of Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'®

Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'® quickly forms a compact clump of narrow, stiff, mainly upright leaves. The foliage reaches around 40 to 50 cm in height, while the flower stems bring the overall plant height to approximately 50 cm. The tubular flowers are grouped in dense spikes displaying warm shades ranging from golden yellow to caramel, with orange tones. Flowering extends from June to October under suitable growing conditions. This cultivar differs from traditional Kniphofia mainly through its much more compact habit and its ability to produce numerous flower spikes over a long period.

How to use Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'®?

Thanks to its compact dimensions, Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'® is particularly well suited to the front of borders, sunny edging and group plantings. Its upright habit provides a strong vertical accent without reaching the size of larger Kniphofia cultivars. It can be combined with low-growing ornamental grasses and summer-flowering perennials in planting schemes requiring warm colours and structural interest. This cultivar is also particularly suitable for growing in pots or containers, as its compact habit works well in restricted spaces. The flower stems may also be used as cut flowers.

What are the best growing tips for Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'®?

Plant Kniphofia POCO™ 'Butter Brickle'® preferably in full sun and in well-drained soil, particularly to avoid excess winter moisture. Allow approximately 50 to 55 cm between plants so that each clump has sufficient space to develop. After planting, water regularly while the root system becomes established, then allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Once well established, this Kniphofia can tolerate periods of dry weather, although watering may still be required during prolonged drought. Remove faded flower spikes progressively and clear damaged foliage at the end of winter. A moderate application of fertiliser in spring supports new growth and flowering.
