Characteristics of Coreopsis Ladybird®

Coreopsis Ladybird® develops a compact, well-branched clump of fine green foliage that highlights its numerous flower heads. Its main varietal feature is the velvety red colour of the flowers, contrasting with a yellow to yellow-orange centre. This colour combination clearly distinguishes it from the many predominantly yellow coreopsis cultivars. The plant reaches approximately 30 cm in height and 35 cm in width and maintains a dense habit well suited to the front of borders. Flowering continues through summer when growing conditions are favourable. A sunny position is required to maintain compact growth and encourage abundant flowering.

How to use Coreopsis Ladybird®?

Thanks to its moderate size, Coreopsis Ladybird® is suitable for edging, the front of borders, rock gardens, gravel gardens and container planting. Its red flowers create strong contrasts with yellow, white or blue-flowering perennials as well as ornamental grasses. It can be used individually to introduce a strong colour accent or planted in groups to enhance its visual impact during summer. Its compact size also makes it suitable for smaller spaces and mixed container schemes. For border planting, allow approximately 30 to 35 cm between plants to ensure regular clump development.

What are the best cultivation tips for Coreopsis Ladybird®?

Plant Coreopsis Ladybird® in full sun, in light to ordinary, well-drained soil. Avoid heavy soils that remain wet for prolonged periods, particularly in winter. Allow approximately 30 to 35 cm between plants. Water regularly after planting to encourage root establishment, then gradually reduce irrigation according to rainfall and soil type. Regular removal of spent flowers helps encourage the production of new flower buds. A light trim can be carried out after the first main flowering flush. In sufficiently fertile soil, limit fertiliser applications to avoid excessive leafy growth at the expense of flowering.
