Characteristics of Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf

Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf is a low-growing tuberous perennial that forms a clump approximately 10 cm high and 20 cm wide. Its rounded, dark green, lightly marked leaves distinguish this selection from the silver-leaved, marbled or variegated forms in the KOUMY® range. From November to March, it produces dark pink flowers with reflexed petals, borne individually above the foliage. The plant enters dormancy during summer. Its stated cold hardiness reaches -20°C when the tuber is planted in well-drained soil without stagnant winter moisture.

How to use Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf

Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf is suitable for open woodland, beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, in shaded rock gardens and along borders protected from direct sunlight. Its winter flowers provide a strong pink colour when few other perennials are in bloom. A planting density of 25 to 30 plants per square metre creates an even ground-covering display. Under favourable conditions, plants may self-seed and gradually form colonies. This selection can also be grown in troughs or shallow containers filled with a well-drained growing medium, alongside hellebores, ferns or small spring-flowering bulbs.

What are the best growing tips for Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf?

Plant Cyclamen coum KOUMY® Dark Pink Green Leaf in autumn, during frost-free periods in winter, or in early spring. Choose humus-rich, moderately fertile and well-drained soil that remains moist during the active growing period. Space plants approximately 20 cm apart and position the tuber about 5 cm below the soil surface. Water after planting and during dry periods in autumn and spring. Reduce watering during summer dormancy. Cultivate the soil only at surface level to avoid damaging the tubers. A moderate application of mature compost or leaf mould in autumn is generally sufficient; avoid excessive nitrogen fertilisation.
