Native to southern Africa, Delosperma cooperi White Wonder® (‘Wowdw7’), commonly known as hardy ice plant, is a succulent ground-cover perennial from the Wheels of Wonder® series. It differs from many pink-, violet- or orange-flowered Delosperma varieties through its large white flowers with a yellow centre. Its spreading habit, fleshy evergreen foliage and long flowering period make it particularly suitable for sunny rock gardens, slopes and containers.

Characteristics of Delosperma cooperi White Wonder®
Delosperma cooperi White Wonder® gradually forms a low, spreading mat of small, fleshy, evergreen green leaves. Its main distinguishing feature is its white, daisy-like flowers with a yellow centre, notable for their relatively large size within the Wheels of Wonder® series. Flowering generally begins in May and can continue into autumn when temperatures and light levels remain favourable. The flowers open more fully in strong light. As with other Delosperma, cold tolerance is closely linked to drainage, as standing moisture during winter can significantly reduce the plant’s hardiness.
How to use Delosperma cooperi White Wonder®?
Delosperma cooperi White Wonder® is particularly suitable for rock gardens, slopes, dry borders and the front of sunny mixed beds. Its spreading habit also makes it well suited to the tops of low walls or planting between stones, provided sufficient soil volume is available. Its white flowers create an effective contrast with pink-, violet- or orange-flowered Delosperma, as well as with sedums and sempervivums. It also performs well in pots, troughs and window boxes when grown in a very free-draining substrate. In group plantings, its spreading growth gradually creates a low, even ground-cover effect.
What are the best cultivation tips for Delosperma cooperi White Wonder®?
Plant Delosperma cooperi White Wonder® in full sun in light, stony or sandy soil with excellent drainage. In heavy soils, improve the structure by incorporating mineral material to reduce waterlogging. Space plants approximately 40 to 50 cm apart to allow for their mature spread. Water after planting and regularly during establishment; once rooted, Delosperma can tolerate dry periods, although additional watering may still be required during prolonged drought or in containers. Pruning is generally limited to removing dry or damaged growth. A light application of fertiliser in spring is usually sufficient, while excessive nitrogen should be avoided.
