Plant description

Erysimum Colour Vibe Orange® is a compact and spectacular variety of perennial belonging to the wallflower family. It captivates with its generous flowering, displaying intense orange, almost fluorescent flowers that stand out beautifully against its evergreen gray-green foliage. This plant forms a rounded clump about 40 to 50 cm high and 30 to 40 cm wide, with a bushy, dense habit. It flowers profusely from March to June, bringing a sunny touch to the garden as soon as the warm weather arrives. Compared to other varieties of wallflowers, Colour Vibe Orange® stands out for the exceptional brightness of its flowers and its ability to bloom profusely in its first year. Resistant to moderate cold (down to 7°C), it is ideal in mild climates, in a sunny location. Highly melliferous, it attracts bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for a garden that welcomes biodiversity.

Uses in the garden or on the balcony

Erysimum Colour Vibe Orange® is a particularly versatile plant, perfect for structuring spring flower beds, creating perennial borders, or brightening up rock gardens. Thanks to its compact size and vibrant flowers, it also looks great in pots or planters on a patio or balcony. It pairs well with other spring perennials such as aubrieta, tulips, and forget-me-nots. It can also be used to contrast with gray or purple foliage. Highly graphic, it catches the eye and instantly energizes a plant arrangement. In pots, it is easy to grow and allows you to extend the colorful flowering season in a small space. It is ideal for creating a low-maintenance garden rich in color and biodiversity, thanks to its appeal to pollinating insects.

Care tips

Plant Erysimum Colour Vibe Orange® in spring or fall, in light, well-drained soil, even if it is poor or stony. It tolerates calcareous soils and enjoys warm, sunny locations. Allow 30 to 40 cm between plants to promote good aeration. Watering should be moderate: excess water will damage its hardiness and may cause root rot. No fertilizer is necessary, but a little compost at the base in spring can support flowering. After flowering, you can prune the plant lightly to maintain a compact shape and encourage repeat flowering. Remove wilted flowers regularly to stimulate continuous flowering. In cold climates, it is best to grow it in a pot or protect it in winter. It requires little maintenance and remains beautiful all year round thanks to its evergreen foliage.

Origin of the plant

This horticultural variety is the result of modern selections of Erysimum, a plant native to Europe and Asia, traditionally used in English cottage gardens.
