Characteristics of Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’

Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’ develops a compact, upright and well-branched habit, reaching around 50 cm in height. Its main feature is its large golden-yellow flower heads, made up of broad ray florets arranged around a clearly visible green centre. This colour combination gives it a distinctive appearance compared with more traditional rudbeckias with dark brown centres. The plant produces successive flowers over several months when growing conditions are favourable. Its green foliage forms a dense clump that highlights the blooms. Because of its limited hardiness, it is generally grown as a seasonal plant in areas subject to significant frost.

How to use Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’?

Thanks to its compact habit and large flowers, Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’ is particularly suitable for pots, large planters, terraces and summer displays. In the ground, it works well at the front or middle of sunny borders, where its yellow flowers provide a strong colour accent from summer into early autumn. It can be combined with ornamental grasses, salvias, echinaceas and other summer-flowering perennials or seasonal plants. Its moderate size also makes it suitable for landscape schemes where planting space is limited.

What are the cultivation tips for Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’?

Plant Rudbeckia Sunbeckia® ‘Ophelia’ in full sun, in fertile, humus-rich and well-drained soil. For border planting, allow approximately 35 to 40 cm between plants to support good branching and airflow. Keep the soil regularly moist during active growth, especially in hot weather, while avoiding waterlogging around the roots. In containers, monitor substrate moisture more frequently and apply a suitable flowering-plant fertiliser during the growing season. Remove faded flowers regularly to maintain a neat appearance and encourage the production of new flower heads.
