Saxifraga × arendsii ‘Purpurteppich’ gradually forms a dense cushion made up of small rosettes of green leaves. Its low-growing, spreading habit makes it well suited to filling small spaces between stones or positioning at the front of planting schemes. In spring, numerous short stems carry carmine-red to purplish-pink flowers, a colour that clearly distinguishes this cultivar from many white- or pale pink-flowering saxifrages. It prefers cool but perfectly drained soils and can tolerate temperatures down to around -20°C, provided that the root system is not exposed to waterlogged conditions.

It performs well in pots, troughs and containers, especially in combinations with other alpine perennials.
