A little exoticism with this grass from South-East Asia, which is quite rare in our latitudes. It develops beautiful, finely pleated green leaves reminiscent of the juvenile leaves of palm trees. It grows in clumps and quickly reaches a spread of 1.2m. A deciduous plant in our latitudes, the stump can withstand temperatures as low as -10°C in a sheltered location.

Characteristics of SETARIA palmata.


SETARIA palmata is a grass that develops a tuft of large, exuberant, bright green leaves. The leaf has a fine, regular folding that is reminiscent of a palm leaf. At the first heat of the day, these large leaves emerge and immediately create a tropical atmosphere. It quickly reaches a height of 1.20m and a width of 60-80cm. The discreet flowering comes late and very rarely, which makes it a difficult plant to propagate and therefore to find.

A must for all exotic and jungle garden inspired beds! The SETARIA palmata will find its place in the company of Colocasias, Cordilines, Agapanthes, Cannas and Banana trees, it will ensure a tropical atmosphere and will make you travel without leaving the garden.
