Characteristics of Solidago Solar Glory®
Solidago Solar Glory® is a perennial in the Asteraceae family, forming a dense, branched clump. Its green foliage, made up of narrow, lance-shaped leaves, dies back during winter before regrowing from the crown in spring. In summer, the stems carry numerous small golden-yellow flowers grouped in branched inflorescences. Solar Glory® has a more compact habit than many traditional goldenrods, making it easier to integrate into smaller borders. The plant reaches around 50 cm in height and 45 cm in width. Its good cold hardiness makes it suitable for open-ground cultivation in many regions.
How to use Solidago Solar Glory®?
Thanks to its compact habit, Solidago Solar Glory® is well suited to borders, front positions and intermediate areas in perennial beds. Its yellow flowering helps extend seasonal interest through the second half of summer. It can be planted in groups to create regular blocks of colour or combined with grasses, asters and other summer- or autumn-flowering perennials. Its moderate size also makes it suitable for pots and containers on sunny terraces. The inflorescences can be used as cut flowers. During flowering, the flowers also provide pollen and nectar for various insects.
What are the best cultivation practices for Solidago Solar Glory®?
Plant Solidago Solar Glory® preferably in full sun, in ordinary, fertile and well-drained soil. Allow approximately 40 to 45 cm between plants so that the clumps can develop properly. Water regularly after planting to support establishment, then irrigate during prolonged dry periods. Container-grown plants require more regular watering because of the limited volume of substrate. Remove faded flower heads to maintain a tidy appearance, then cut back dry stems in late winter. A moderate application of compost in spring can support new growth; avoid excessive nitrogen fertilisation, which can encourage softer, weaker stems.
