This Aloe develops a trunk and branches as it grows, creating a dense clump of several rosettes that can exceed 1.5 metres in span. Fleshy, slightly concave evergreen leaves. Remarkable flowering in spikes of over 30cm of small red tubular flowers. Has many medicinal properties.

The characteristics of Aloe arborescens.


Aloe arborescens is an eye-catcher. It is distinguished by its large size and sprawling habit. From a thick stem, multiple branches emerge from a sturdy woody trunk like a candelabra, which has given the plant one of its common names, aloe candelabra. The foliage, arranged in rosettes and directed downwards, is so dense that the trunk is not even visible. It blooms early in the spring with large tubular flower stalks that are orange-yellow at the beginning and orange to red at the end.

How to use Aloe arborescens.


As well as being grown as an ornamental plant, Aloe arborescens is also valued for its medicinal properties, and is sometimes touted as being more effective than aloe vera. It fits perfectly in dry gardens with Agaves, Yuccas, Magaves... In company with Banana trees, Tetrapanax, Cannas for a Jungle effect.

The ALOE arborescens is an easy plant, not very hardy, it will be planted in a pot to be wintered without frost. It should be planted in drained soil and in a sunny position.
