Plant description
Erysimum Colour Vibe Red®, also known as perennial wallflower, is a recent variety notable for its powerful, bright red, almost incandescent flowers. It forms a bushy, rounded clump, approximately 40 to 50 cm high and 30 to 40 cm wide, with a compact, dense habit. Its evergreen leaves are narrow, elongated, and dark green with a slight bluish tint, highlighting its bright flowers. Flowering is abundant from spring (March-April) to early summer (June), attracting many pollinating insects. Its hardiness down to -10°C makes it suitable for many regions, in sunny locations. Compared to other wallflowers, this Colour Vibe Red® selection stands out for its rare color, long flowering period, and excellent performance in pots and in the ground. It offers a strong visual impact with minimal maintenance.
Uses in the garden or in pots
Erysimum Colour Vibe Red® is ideal for adding energy to spring flower beds, borders, or rock gardens, thanks to its intense flowering and compact habit. It is also perfect for terraces or balconies, grown in pots or planters, alongside spring bulbs or decorative foliage perennials. It can be combined with tulips, daffodils, forget-me-nots, or even light grasses for an interesting contrast. It is also an excellent plant for dry or Mediterranean gardens, as it tolerates drought well once established. Thanks to its long flowering period and its ability to attract bees, it actively contributes to biodiversity in the garden. It also fits perfectly into modern or country-style compositions, adding a touch of lasting bright color.
Planting and care tips
Erysimum Colour Vibe Red® is best planted in spring or fall, in well-drained soil, even if it is poor or chalky. It does not tolerate standing water in winter. Light, sandy, or stony soil is ideal. Space plants 30 to 40 cm apart to allow them to develop properly. In pots, use a well-drained substrate with a layer of clay balls at the bottom. Watering should be moderate, especially in summer; once well-rooted, the plant tolerates drought well. Pruning is limited to a light cut after flowering to stimulate new growth and maintain a compact shape. Avoid overly rich fertilizers: an organic application in the spring is sufficient. The plant grows quickly, providing an almost immediate decorative effect after planting. It requires little maintenance, making it ideal for beginner gardeners or those looking for easy-to-care-for plants.
Origin of the plant
Erysimum Colour Vibe Red® is a horticultural variety derived from a cross between perennial wallflower species native to southern Europe and North Africa, regions known for their plants adapted to dry, sunny climates.
