Plant description
Erysimum Colour Vibe Purple® – or perennial wallflower – is a compact, floriferous plant that stands out for its spectacular blooms. This variety boasts a unique color, an intense purple with almost fluorescent highlights, which immediately catches the eye. It forms a well-branched, bushy clump, reaching a maximum height of 40 cm and a width of approximately 30 cm. Its narrow, dark green evergreen foliage perfectly highlights the vibrant color of its flowers. It flowers early, starting in March, and can continue flowering until June, or even later in mild regions. This selection stands out for its high resistance to cold (down to -10°C) and its generous flowering, far superior to that of classic Erysimum varieties. Ideal for adding a touch of modernity and brightness to the garden or terrace.
Uses in the garden or in pots
Erysimum Colour Vibe Purple® is a particularly versatile plant. In beds, it makes an excellent foreground plant thanks to its long and vibrant flowering period. It goes very well with spring bulbs (tulips, daffodils) or other perennials such as aubrieta or arabis. In borders or rockeries, it adds volume without taking over the space. On a patio or balcony, it shines in a flowering pot, alone or combined with other colorful varieties of perennial wallflowers or silver-leaved plants (such as Helichrysum or Artemisia). Its modern look and bright flowers also make it a good choice for urban or contemporary gardens, where it goes well with grasses or Mediterranean-style plants. Thanks to its evergreen foliage, it remains decorative all year round, even when not in bloom.
Plant care
Erysimum Colour Vibe Purple® is easy to care for. Plant it in light, well-drained, even calcareous soil in a sunny spot. It can also tolerate partial shade, but flowering will be less abundant. Allow 30 cm between plants. Water moderately after planting, then only during prolonged drought, as it tolerates dry periods well. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain a compact habit and encourages repeat flowering. It is advisable to avoid excessive moisture in winter, especially in heavy soil. A light application of organic fertilizer in spring is sufficient to enhance flowering. It requires no mulching or special protection against the cold, except in areas with very harsh winters. Very resistant to disease, it is an excellent perennial for novice or experienced gardeners.
Origin of the plant
This horticultural variety is the result of recent selections developed from Erysimum hybrids, native to the Mediterranean regions and Western Europe.
