Characteristics of Salvia Amistad®

Salvia Amistad® is a fast-growing hybrid sage from the Lamiaceae family. It produces elegant, upright flower spikes throughout summer and autumn, bearing vivid purple blooms with contrasting dark calyces. The aromatic, soft green foliage and vigorous habit make it a standout structural perennial for borders. Though frost-tender in colder zones, it is perennial in mild climates and can regrow from the base if well-mulched. Its long flowering period and nectar-rich flowers make it highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, supporting biodiversity in managed landscapes.

How to Use Salvia Amistad® in Landscaping?

Perfect for adding height, color, and movement, Salvia Amistad® is ideal for mixed borders, cottage gardens, Mediterranean schemes, or wildlife-friendly plantings. Its dramatic upright form and rich tones contrast well with silver-foliaged plants, ornamental grasses, and warm-toned perennials. It’s also excellent for container planting on terraces and patios where structure and flower power are desired. In urban or dry gardens, it serves as a focal point or rhythm plant in repetitive groupings.

Growing Tips for Salvia Amistad®

Best planted in spring or early autumn. Space 40–60 cm apart to allow for mature spread.Prefers well-drained, light soils (sandy, loamy, or limestone-based). Avoid heavy, water-retentive clay. Moderate watering during establishment; becomes moderately drought-tolerant once established. Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage reblooming. In late winter or early spring, cut back by one-third to promote dense regrowth. In cold climates, protect the base with mulch or overwinter containers in frost-free areas. Though above-ground growth may die back, the rootstock can survive mild frosts and regenerate.
