This beautiful species of Mahonia is distinguished by its persistent and resilient foliage, adorned with a gorgeous bright green hue and golden yellow blossoms. Unlike other varieties of Mahonias, its long, narrow leaves are scarcely prickly, clustering at the ends of the stems, giving the plant an appearance reminiscent of a palm or fern.

Characteristics of Mahonia sinensis:
Unlike other types of Mahonias, its narrow, elongated leaves are not very prickly and are grouped together at the ends of the stems, giving it a palm-like or fern-like appearance. Its foliage is evergreen, leathery and bright green. In autumn, it produces clusters of bright yellow flowers with an intoxicating fragrance, attracting a multitude of pollinating insects. Then, in spring, its fruits metamorphose into charming, round, purplish-blue berries.
How to use Mahonia sinensis ?
Perfectly adaptable to any space, Mahonia sinensis is a small variety, measuring around 80 cm high and 1 metre wide. With its graphic, exotic look, it blends in well in flowerbeds or as a low hedge. It can be planted in rows, singly or in bunches. Another option is to place it in a pot or tub, to provide colour and foliage all year round on the terrace or balcony.
What advices to achieve the Mahonia sinensis ?
Hardy down to -15°C, this Mahonia likes semi-shaded to shady exposures, in well-drained, rich soil, avoiding excess water. It tolerates drought, but requires weekly watering in summer. To prune it, a light cut at the end of winter or early spring is all that is needed, removing any damaged branches and spent flowers and cutting back the terminal bunch of leaves to encourage branching.
