Features of  Salvia x Little C®

SALVIA, native to the mountainous dry regions of Mexico and the southwestern U.S., is known for its aromatic foliage and long blooming period. The  x Little C® cultivar is a more compact selection, forming dense, rounded clumps under 60 cm in height. Its foliage is fine, highly aromatic, and remains semi-evergreen in milder climates. Flowering is abundant and continues for several months, producing tubular blooms in vivid tones (depending on the variant). Like other microphylla types, 'Little C' thrives in well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soils and shows good tolerance to drought once established. It is also a valuable nectar source for pollinators.

How to Use  Salvia x Little C®

SALVIA x Little C® is highly adaptable for use in small gardens, patios, balconies, or dry borders. Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for pots or containers, and in the ground, it fits well into the front of borders, low hedging, or groundcover-type plantings. In rock gardens or Mediterranean schemes, it contributes both fine texture and reliable summer flowering. It pairs well with other drought-tolerant perennials or grasses. As a pollinator-friendly species, it also supports ecological planting goals in sustainable landscape designs.

Cultivation Guidelines for  Salvia x Little C®

SALVIA x Little C® requires well-drained soil—light, sandy, or stony. Prefers poor to moderately fertile substrates with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Full sun exposure ensures best flowering and form. Space 40–50 cm apart. Plant in spring or early autumn. In heavy soils, amend with gravel or sand to ensure adequate drainage. Water moderately during establishment. Once established, it is drought tolerant. In pots, maintain regular but controlled watering. A light organic feed in spring supports flowering. Deadhead regularly to encourage reblooming. Prune lightly in early spring to maintain a compact, branched habit. In colder regions (below –10 °C), choose a sheltered site or apply winter mulch. Container plants may require additional protection from frost.
