Perennial with an upright habit native from South America, Habranthus robustus is a bulb plant from the Amaryllis family. Its summer flowering is very decorative. It is composed of large pink-white star-shaped flowers with a yellow-green heart. They appear during the summer after the rain. This slightly rustic perennial likes sun exposure, and will bring colors to mediterranean gardens during summer months.

Habranthus robustus is a nice bulbous perennial plant that belongs to the amaryllis' family, coming from South America (Argentina, Brazil). In the summer, large white, pink with yellow stamens' flowers appear after the rain or a watering, which explains its nickname: "Rain lily".

How to use Habranthus robustus ?

Its colourful flowering and its upright habit (about 25cm high at most), make it a really interesting perennial variety for dry garden's planting, such as Mediterranean ones. A warm climate suits perfectly to the Habranthus robustus, not very rustic (until -5°C), it loves sun exposure and the heat.

What advices to achieve the Habranthus robustus's growth ?

In case of cold winter, a mulch will prevent Habranthus robustus from the frost. This variety preferes well-drained soil. In order to obtain several flowerings, it is possible to alternate between dry period and wet ones so as to replenish its native climate, where it rains throughout the year but a little less during the summer.
