The characteristics of AGAVE isthmensis.

Agave isthmensis is a variety discovered in the early 90' and recently commercialized. It is a variety with small development, of compact spherical shape. The leaves are small, widening towards the tip, at most they will measure 12 cm long and 7 cm wide. The colour of the grey-blue foliage has green reflections and contrasts with the orange-brown of the spines. The terminal spine is very pronounced. The agave isthmensis will reach 30cm in diameter after 10 years.

How to use AGAVE isthmensis.

With its small size, Agave isthmensis will adapt perfectly in dry and coastal gardens in association with larger Agaves, Phormiums, Yuccas, Dasylirion and also Sempervivums and grasses. A dark mulch will enhance it like slate. Agave isthmensis will also enjoy potted on a terrace, its weak growth will not require rapid repotting.

What advice can be given to grow AGAVE isthmensis successfully.

Agave isthmensis will require a very sunny exposure and a very well drained soil. This Agave is not very resistant to cold, -3°C. It will have to be winterized in the coldest regions.
